True... and if that were the case, wouldn't Bella be on Edward's back anyhow?

Also... just something I have always wondered, but why didn't he go after Alice? I mean she was the only one that ever got away from him before.... It would be a more even match now.... He let her get away again, which did seem odd to me...

In Twilight SM said that he was only interested in Alice because she was protected by the other vampire and once she was a vampire herself, she wasn't interesting anymore

Yes but if Edward suddenly stopped being protective of Bella, do you really think he would have stopped hunting her? It was because Alice was changed, and was too strong as a newborn, that he went after the guy who changed her instead.
